Ōkami is a game with an impressive ratio of women to men: among the main characters, there’s either an equal split or a majority, depending on who you count (and on your opinion of what Shiranui’s true gender is). However, there’s a big difference between representing a group of people, and representing them well. Notably eyeroll-worthy portrayals of women in Ōkami include the female tree spirit whose powers you restore seemingly at the cost of half her clothing, and the priestess whose ample bosom distracts the game’s heroes in every cutscene they share. Despite these awkward encounters, though, I still believe Ōkami’s female cast contains some truly brilliant characters.
It is resolve that determines the true value of your life.” -Waka
These women are the epitome of resolve and determination, and I salute the creators of Okami for letting us witness their strength. (I would also like to add a few characters though, namely Kai and Laika).
this shirt says exactly what Waka thinks every time demons attack Nippon, even if he’s too classy to say something like that out loud. so, have this sketch i busted out in 0.002 seconds.
(i know Nippon isn’t exactly a second Celestial Plane, there’s only one, but shhhhh…)
