       Ōkami is a game with an impressive ratio of women to men: among the main characters, there’s either an equal split or a majority, depending on who you count (and on your opinion of what Shiranui’s true gender is). However, there’s a big difference between representing a group of people, and representing them well. Notably eyeroll-worthy portrayals of women in Ōkami include the female tree spirit whose powers you restore seemingly at the cost of half her clothing, and the priestess whose ample bosom distracts the game’s heroes in every cutscene they share. Despite these awkward encounters, though, I still believe Ōkami’s female cast contains some truly brilliant characters.
